Charles Edward Alexander

Graveside services for Mr. Charles Alexander, Sr. were held on Monday, August 27, 2012, at 11:00a.m. at Driver Cemetery near Teague. Rev. Richard Gillet officiated.

Mr. Alexander passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2012, at East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield. He was born and raised in Mississippi. Mr. Alexander served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. After his service in the Army, he worked as a mechanic for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1976. Mr. Alexander was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #3907 in Palestine and was active in many V.F.W. events including funeral details and parades. He enjoyed playing bingo and casino games. Mr. Alexander was a Lutheran by Faith.

He is survived by four sons, Jerry Wayne Alexander & wife Penny of Bryan, Billy Joe Alexander & wife Janie of Batesville, MS., Charles Ray Alexander of Batesville, MS., and Charles E. Alexander, Jr. & wife Heather of Baytown; four daughters, Tammy Williams & husband Randy of Batesville, MS., Wanda Alexander of Oxford, MS., Dinna Flynn & husband Ron of Travelors Rest, S.C., and Loretta Gresham of Fairfield; twenty-two grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; one sister, Faye Johnson of Batesville, MS.; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Alexander; three brothers, J.T. Alexander, Bobby Alexander, and Norris Alexander; and four sisters, Ella Mae Hailey, Ruby Wooley, Estelle Freeman, and Louise Rogers.

The family requests memorials be made to the V.F.W Post #3907, 3800 West Oak, Palestine, TX 75801.
